Araw ng Kagitingan | Honoring the Heroes of Bataan

On April 9, 2026, the country observes Araw ng Kagitingan, a national holiday that commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II.

1942 April 9th, marked the Fall of Bataan, a pivotal moment in the country's history, as Filipino and American forces surrendered to the Japanese army after a grueling 99-day battle. The heroic defense of Bataan against overwhelming odds has become a symbol of courage and resilience in the face of adversity.

The valor displayed by the soldiers during the Fall of Bataan and the Bataan Death March is a testament and a reminder to the strength and determination of the Filipino people. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten, and their legacy continues to inspire generations to stand up for freedom, justice, and the rights of the nation.

As the nation honors the heroes of Bataan, the opportunity to reflect on the importance of patriotism, courage, and unity. Their bravery serves as a reminder to strive for a brighter future, built on the principles of freedom, justice, and peace.

CPC joins FTRC Regional Battle of the Brains Cebu Cluster

Cordova Public College (CPC) participated in the Falculan Twins’ Review Center (FTRC) Regional Battle of the Brains Cebu Cluster held on April 11, 2026, at the CAP College Building along Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.

Representing the college in the academic competition were Ian Pogoy Petallar, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Major in English student; Darlene Villaceran, a fourth-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) student; and Chloe Faith Villaceran, a third-year BEEd student, who competed individually against participants from various institutions.

The participants were guided by coaches Ma’am Erica Dico and Ma’am Jenysel Cadungog, with the support of College of Teacher Education (CTE) Dean Dr. Jenylen Cabiso.
Through their participation, CPC representatives exemplified dedication to learning and excellence, highlighting the institution’s commitment to developing competent and future-ready educators.

A total of 314 teaching interns from the College of Teacher Education (CTE) have been deployed to various partner schools across Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova, Cebu.
Affirming support for their practice teaching journey, the teaching interns were visited by Dr. Jenylen T. Cabiso, Dean of the College of Teacher Education.

Accompanying the Dean were CTE faculty members Mrs. Malou Dela Piedra, who joined the visits for the Lapu-Lapu City schools, and Mr. Emmanuel Ando, who assisted at the schools in Cordova. The team conducted on-the-spot monitoring to provide guidance and evaluate the progress of the interns in the field.

The monitoring circuit was conducted on the following dates:

March 3: The team visited interns at Babag National High School and Babag 2 Elementary School.
March 4: Visits continued at Gun-ob National High School, Poblacion Elementary School, Marigondon Elementary School, and Marigondon High School.
March 10: The faculty monitored interns at Subabasbas, Sudtunggan, Bankal Elementary School, Mactan National High School, and Maribago National High School.
March 23: The final leg of the visits focused on Cordova schools, including Catarman, Cordova Central, Pilipog, Bang-bang, Day-as, and Alegria.
Dr. Cabiso expressed her gratitude to the cooperating mentors and school heads for their unwavering support in molding our future educators.

“I am very grateful to all the cooperating school heads, mentors, and parents of our teaching interns for guiding our future educators in their journey. I am truly happy that CPC has become an instrument in helping them reach their dreams. I am a living testimony to how this institution shapes the minds of students and touches their hearts. Indeed, in unity, there is strength. With everyone's help, and most of all, with God, all things are possible.”
